Recording

OnceScribe supports recording from your microphone or system audio, with automatic transcription after recording stops.

Recording Sources

  • Microphone: Record your voice
  • System Audio: Record what your computer is playing (macOS requires screen recording permission)

Start Recording

  1. Select the “Record” tab on the workbench
  2. Choose input device:
    • Microphone: Select your microphone
    • System Audio: Select system audio capture (macOS requires authorization)
  3. Click “Start Recording”
  4. Watch the real-time waveform during recording
  5. Click “Stop Recording”

Live Transcription

See real-time transcription while recording:

  • Transcribe as you record, no waiting
  • Great for meetings, interviews, live streams
  • System audio + microphone can be captured simultaneously (mixed)

Permissions

macOS

  • Microphone: System will prompt on first use — click “Allow”
  • System Audio: macOS requires “Screen Recording” permission to capture system audio. OnceScribe will guide you to System Settings if not authorized

Windows

  • Microphone: Windows will request permission on first use
  • System Audio: Windows 10/11 allows apps to record system audio by default

Recording Settings

In Settings → Recording you can adjust:

  • Default recording device
  • Recording format (WAV / MP3)
  • Recording save path
  • Auto-transcribe toggle
